Strawberry king and his Mochi
This is the Strawberry King from love.janine at her flickr photostream. This delicious treat is a Japanese Mochi (is a Japanese rice cake made of glutinous rice pounded into paste and molded into shape. In Japan it is traditionally made in a ceremony called mochitsuki. While also eaten year-round, mochi is a traditional food for the Japanese New Year and is commonly sold and eaten during that time. Mochi is also a prominent snack in Hawaii and Taiwan.Wikipedia)

Let the Strawberry Eating Begin
First batch of Strawberries
Courtesy of the Berry Bay Farms in Wimauma, Fl
Lucky me scored half a flat (6 pints) of beautiful strawberries yesterday from our friends Michelle and Todd at the Berry Bay Farms. Todd is the farm manager and has been in the Agriculture Business for over 25 years and loves what he does. The website for the farm has all kinds of "strawberry growing" photo's and info. I didn't know that they grow onions on the outside row because it's not the favorite place to pick the strawberries (only working on one side). I'm still learning our different varieties of Florida Strawberries, (there are seven main varieties) and did you know that
"Each plant is picked every 3 to 4 days. It takes a strawberry approximately 14 to 21 days (depending on weather) to go from flower to red fruit" Visit the website to learn more fun facts.
Today when I got home from work I played in the kitchen making Strawberry Bread Pudding,
Strawberry Bread and Angel Food Cake for Strawberry Shortcake with Hard Whipped Cream. Yum!

Fruit Mousse
I'm not even sure what this is, but I think it is so pretty. The translation is something about Fruit Mousse, From Joan Brune's who lives in Vilanova del Valle's, Catalunya which is in Spain, north of Barcelona. I was having a bit of hard time with the google translator but Joan Brue's is a dessert/pastry chef and has a website that is absolutely Delicious.

Red Cake in Paint
This beautiful piece of cake is the creation of Halima Washington. Halima is an artist who lives in Atlanta, Georgia and paints with a combination of a palette knife and a brush. She "loves using the impasto technique because she wants the viewer to be aware of the paint and her passion for it and wants people to see everyday ordinary objects and surroundings as extraordinary". Halima has a beautiful blog SMALL WORKS that is full of her magnificent pieces of work. If you're lucky enough to live in Atlanta Halima teaches at Callanwolde Fine Arts Center and has her work available at the Anne Irwin Fine Art Gallery. You can also find out more at Halima's website.

Super Duper Strawberry Tart
WoW.. I know I say this a lot, but you have to admit this looks awesome! This is a
Strawberry Yogurt Mascarpone Tart and it is from Meetas blog What's For Lunch, Honey?
You will find the recipe as well as all the how to's. Just Fabulous.
I didn't know what a Mascarpone Tart was so good ole' Wikipedia came to my rescue. It's
"a triple-cream cheese made from crème fraîche, denatured with tartaric acid.[1] Sometimes buttermilk is added as well, depending on the brand. After denaturation, whey is removed without pressing or aging.[2] One can manufacture mascarpone by using cream, tartaric or citric acid, or even lemon juice.[3]
Mascarpone is milky-white in color and is easily spread. When fresh, it smells like milk and cream. It is used in various dishes of the Lombardy region of Italy, where it is a specialty. It is a main ingredient of tiramisu. It is sometimes used instead of butter or Parmesan cheese to thicken and enrich risotto."
Yum, can't wait to try it!
