Wild Coast Strawberry Postcard
Received from US-1017158 2/28/11 From Eugenie In San Francisco
"This Low-growing Perennial may be seen blooming from February to August along our Pacific shoreline from Alaska to central California. On dunes and beaches, Coast Strawberry plants interconnected by numerous runners may be among the first vegetation to colonize and stabilize the shifting sands. Although the fruit, by current standards, is small and not very flavorful, this species played a major role in the development of modern garden and farm varieties, and was cultivated in South America before 1600
